Chicken Tikka Masala in the Slow Cooker

Chicken Tikka Masala in the Slow Cooker

Chicken Tikka Masala often uses chicken thighs. In this recipe, you can use chicken breast thanks to the slow-and-low cooking method of using a slow cooker. The meat then becomes more flavorful and tender while being lean.

  • Slow Cooker


  • 900 gram chicken breast
  • 110 gram onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 4 gram fresh ginger
  • 2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 0.5 teaspoon Kashmiri red chili powder or cayenne pepper or
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 28 oz (1 can) crushed tomatoes
  • 5 gram salt
  • 170 gram light coconut milk
  • 1 handful fresh cilantro, for garnish


  • Cut onion, mince garlic, and grate the ginger.
  • Place a skillet over medium heat.
  • Spray with non-stick spray and add the onion, cook for 4 minutes.
  • Add the garlic, fresh ginger root, and dry spices. Cook for another 4 minutes.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes.
  • Add the sauce to the chicken breast in the slow cooker.
  • Cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  • Stir in the coconut milk.
  • Serve over your favorite side dish topped with cilantro.


For an authentic tikka masala add 0.25 tsp cardamon to the spice mix.
